French Lick, Indiana -- the home to the one and only Larry Bird! Often referred to as Larry Legend, our hometown All-Star was legendary from an early age.
Larry Bird, one of the most iconic figures in basketball history, has a deeply rooted connection to French Lick, Indiana, where he was born and raised. Referred to as the "Hick from French Lick." Our small town is nestled in the southern part of the state played a pivotal role in shaping Bird's character and basketball career. Growing up in a humble household, Bird developed a strong work ethic and a competitive spirit from a young age, traits that would define his legendary career in the NBA.
French Lick provided the backdrop for Bird's formative years, where he honed his basketball skills on the makeshift courts of the town and in the local high school gym, Springs Valley. Despite facing numerous challenges, including financial hardships and a sometimes difficult family life, Bird's passion for the game never wavered.
